Introduction to Solis

Core architectural principles of the Solis continuous-spectrum optical raytracing and calibration engine.

Solis is an engineering-grade optical simulation and spectral rendering engine designed to solve the limitations of trichromatic (RGB) computer graphics.

Instead of reducing light transport to three arbitrary color primaries, Solis computes physical wave optics across an 81-channel continuous spectrum spanning from 380 nm (ultraviolet edge) to 780 nm (infrared threshold).

Core Capabilities

  • Continuous Spectral Power Distributions: Full CIE D65, D50, and AM0 solar irradiance simulation with Fraunhofer absorption lines.
  • Sellmeier Glass Formulation: Physical non-linear refractive index calculation for crown, flint, and fluorite optical media.
  • Zernike Wavefront Decompositions: Rigorous phase aberration evaluation including spherical, coma, and astigmatism.
  • Sensor Quantum Efficiency Integration: Direct photon-to-electron responsivity mapping for industrial CMOS and sCMOS detector dies.
  • Zero Backend Dependencies: Pure Next.js App Router static architecture with zero phone-home telemetry.

Design Philosophy

Solis follows the rigorous visual and engineering traditions of Swiss modernism:

  1. Clarity Over Embellishment: Every UI element corresponds directly to a physical optical parameter.
  2. Hairline Precision: 0-border-radius geometry with micro-metric reticle fiducials.
  3. Calibrated Environments: Light mode mirrors a sterile ISO 6500K Clean Room, while dark mode provides an uncompromised Darkroom with zero stray luminescence.
